Trakai Island Castle was constructed in the 14th century and held great strategic importance for the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He has had a turbulent history and fell into disrepair in the 17th century and gradually was deserted. Reconstruction began in the 19th century and today it is a popular tourist destination and one of the most photographed places in Europe.
